House Accountability War Room

Talking Points: First 100 Days of the Mike Johnson Speakership

Topline Message: In his first 100 days as Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson failed to deliver for the American people and instead pushed an unpopular and dangerous MAGA agenda, including defending election deniers, pushing poison pills in funding bills, and fighting for extreme anti-abortion policies. Speaker Johnson’s draconian vision for our country is a direct attack on working families and will have devastating consequences for our democracy.

Talking Points:

  • In his first 100 days, Speaker Johnson shamelessly tried to whitewash and minimize the depravity of the January 6, 2021 insurrection, including defending Rep. Elise Stefanik’s referral to insurrectionists as “hostages” and failing to commit to certifying the 2024 election.
  • Speaker Johnson is an anti-abortion extremist. In his first 100 days, he passed two bills aimed at restricting access to abortion care and proudly spoke at the 2024 March for Life.
  • Speaker Johnson continues to threaten to shut down the government unless he is able to slash funding for vital programs that benefit millions of Americans, such as access to Social Security and veterans’ benefits.
  • Even Johnson’s allies think he is doing a poor job. For example, Rep. Andy Biggs recently lamented that Republicans under Johnson “have nothing to go out there and campaign on” because they have done “nothing.”
  • What can we expect from his next 100 days? MAGA Republicans continuing to push their extreme agenda despite poll after poll showing the American people don’t support devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare, a national abortion ban, or attacks on our elections.
