Former Trump Press Sec. Sarah Sanders’ State of the Union Rebuttal Signals GOP Is Going Full MAGA

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following President Biden’s State of the Union address tonight, Speaker Kevin McCarthy has chosen former MAGA mouthpiece of the Trump administration and current Governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, to deliver the rebuttal to his speech. Americans can expect her to champion the deeply unpopular and extreme agenda being advanced by the MAGA-controlled House — which includes cuts to Social Security and Medicare, total abortion bans, conspiracy theory-peddling, and higher taxes on the middle class.

Additional background on Sarah Huckabee Sanders:

  • Former Trump Spokesperson: Sanders spent two years as President Trump’s press secretary, when she repeatedly praised and defended Trump’s controversial and scandal-filled administration.

    • As Trump’s press secretary, Sanders was known for misleading and lying to the press and the American people. She defended Trump’s controversial policies, including his family separation policy.

    • Trump endorsed Sanders’s campaign for governor of Arkansas on the same day she announced her campaign.

    • Just last month, Sanders said this about Trump: “I love the president. I have a great relationship with him.”

  • Election Denier: Sanders promoted bogus claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election and refused to say if President Biden won. Sanders said, “We know there is fraud in every election.”

    • Even before the 2020 election, Sanders stood by Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2016 election.

    • Before the November 2020 election, Sanders defended Trump’s refusal to commit to a peaceful transition of power.

  • Extreme Abortion Ban Supporter: Sanders supports banning abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest.

    • After the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Sanders said, “This is a day so many of us have prayed for and worked towards.”

    • Sanders said, “As governor, I will fight to keep Arkansas one of the most pro-life states in the nation.”

      • Arkansas has an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.

  • MAGA Culture Warrior: As governor of Arkansas, Sanders has decided to focus on culture war issues rather than fighting for issues that Arkansans and the American people care about like lowering costs.

    • On her first day as Governor of Arkansas, Sanders issued an executive order to ban the teaching of critical race theory in schools.

    • This month, Sanders is set to sign a bill that would restrict drag shows.

    • Sanders also supports Arkansas’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors.
